FAQ – paid healthcare research

At GKA, we are always on the lookout for people who are interested in taking part in medical market research. Not only do you get the opportunity to share your thoughts and opinions, but you also get paid for your time. We conduct online communities, focus groups, mobile qual and more for both patients and HCPs to take part in.

Below you will find a useful FAQ section for any questions you may have.

Who are GKA?

Gillian Kenny Associates was founded by Gillian Kenny in Newnham-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, in the early 1990s. As specialists within this industry, we pride ourselves on contributing to developments in the UK healthcare market and now have a panel of over 15,000 UK healthcare professionals and 5,000 patients nationwide across a wide range of conditions.

How do I benefit?

We are always looking for healthcare professionals and patients to take part in our studies. We have experience in a range of therapy areas, so it doesn’t matter what sector of the industry you’re currently involved with.

What do you do with my information?

Protect it. Your privacy is important to us, and we will do everything in our power to protect it. We strictly adhere to codes of conduct which include the Data Protection Act 1998. We also do not sell or pass your information onto third parties. Please read our Privacy Policy, which explains in detail how we process your information.

What will the research be used for?

Research use varies for each study, however, findings from individuals or groups can be used to influence the healthcare industry as a whole. We always try and give participants as much information as possible upfront about the objectives of the research. For example, if the research is used for advertising purposes respondents will be made aware and asked to sign consent forms.

How do I get started?

Signing up to our panel couldn’t be easier. We will ask you for some brief but relevant information about you and your key contact information and, with a click of a button, your sign up is complete! Don’t forget to include your email address so we can easily email you the invitations. Once you register, you will join our panel of patients or healthcare professionals who are all looking to voice their opinions about the industry. What happens next?

Depending on the information that you’ve given us, you could be contacted as soon as the next day. To ensure we are speaking to the right people, each project has specific requirements so it may be that you are not eligible for certain projects that you apply for. If this is the case, don’t worry, we’ll have more invitations on their way to you soon.

How do I know if I’ve been selected to take part?

If you have been successfully selected to take part in our research studies then a member of our team will contact you via email or phone to discuss the opportunity with you further.

How often will invitations be sent to me?

If you have signed up to our panel, you will receive regular emails if we feel a project is relevant to you. To keep up-to-date on all of our current studies, follow us on Facebook.

Do I have to accept every invitation I receive?

Not at all – You can choose to apply for whichever project you like.

When and how will I receive my incentive?

Incentives vary for each study, it can be cash, cheque, bank transfer or Amazon gift certificates. We’ll let you know as early on in the process as we can what form the incentive will take. See below for when you can expect your incentive:

  • Cash – On the day
  • Cheque and Bank Transfer – Up to 2 weeks
  • Amazon gift certificates – Up to 6 Weeks

What happens if you cancel my time slot?

Usually, if your time slot is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, you will still be paid part of or the full incentive. However, in some cases, we may offer a discretionary amount, depending on the study. In any case, you will always be informed of any changes to time slots via email or phone-call as soon as possible.

Can I bring my baby/child along?

We are sorry but, unless the study requires, you can’t bring your baby or child along to a focus group. This is because each participant’s full attention is required so that accurate results are produced.

What happens if I don’t meet the criteria?

Each study is unique and has specific criteria, which you might not have met this time. Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook pages for news of any upcoming studies which you might be interested in. We’ll also send you invitations for studies via email which we think are appropriate for you from this information you have provided.

Do you cover travel expenses?

As a thank you for taking part in a study, you will receive an incentive. Any travel costs should be covered within this. 

Do the venues have parking available?

This really depends on the location and can vary each time so please ask one of the team and they will be able to give you more information on the parking facilities.
